Edwards along with Gary O'Neil represent the early names under consideration to succeed the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was dismissed on Sunday following the team's ten-game without a victory beginning to the top-flight season.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have historic associations to the club - are part of the names to be considered by the club leadership.

Edwards is presently at another club, which would create a possible hurdle to his appointment at Molineux.

However the former Luton head coach - who played over a century of appearances for the club during his playing career - is said to be a leading contender for the position.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the Wolves board as they begin the search of hiring a new head coach.

O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected contender, although he would be a shock appointment given he was released by Wolves in the previous winter.

The former West Ham player is out of work meaning the club would not need to pay any compensation.
